FAQ

What is “therapeutic massage”?

Therapeutic Massage is the type of massage that offers tangible health benefits. Client and practitioner work together to establish shared goals for alleviating pain, increasing mobility, and addressing other complications that may keep you from achieving optimal health.

Therapeutic massage requires knowledge of the various body systems—nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, muscular—and how they work together. Areas of focus and expertise include sports massage, neuromuscular, trigger point, myofascial, lymphatic, pre/post surgery, reflexology, fertility, prenatal, postpartum and aromatherapy.

This is my first massage—ever. What should I expect?

We want to make sure your experience with us is positive and comfortable!

After you book your massage, you’ll receive a confirmation email and a simple new patient intake form. Upon arrival for your appointment, you’ll be greeted by your therapist and will review your intake, plus any other important details about your health, injury, or reason for visiting that may not have been noted on the form. You’ll then be guided to your treatment room and if necessary, your therapist may perform further physical assessment, such as assessing your range of motion, posture, etc. At the end of the session, your therapist will discuss his/her recommendations for a treatment plan and answer your questions.

With todays current health and safety concerns rest assured that we always offer a safe and clean office space. We follow all current health guidelines and standards proposed by the CDC as well as our own ethical commitment to health and safety. Our linens are professionally laundered and all surfaces are properly cleaned before and after each session.

Please arrive at your scheduled time for your first appointment with us. We keep our waiting area locked to ensure a healthy, quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Your therapist will greet you at your scheduled time and show you the way to the restroom if needed.

Do I have to take my clothes off during my massage?

We are committed to your comfort. As professional massage therapists, we practice “draping” techniques—tucking and folding of towels or sheets so only the body part we’re actively working on is exposed. However, you are welcome to leave on loose-fitting clothing and/or underwear and can let your therapist know your preference during your pre-massage consultation.

If I come to address my pain, will it go away after our session?

With therapeutic massage, you will begin to feel an amount of relief starting with your very first visit. However, significant pain relief can potentially take multiple sessions to achieve your goals; it’s just not something you can rush. That said, we will always work to provide as much relief as we can by using our extensive experience and variety of techniques suited to your unique situation. Please note, it can take some time for the results of each session to fully kick in. Always follow up by drinking lots of water and moving in ways that show care for you body!

Do you offer prenatal massage?

Yes! We have multiple prenatal massage certified therapists. Head to our About Us page to identify the type of service you’re looking for and then book an initial consultation!

Do you offer packages or family/group rates?

Yes! You can purchase 4 or more sessions at a time for your convenience and packages can be shared by multiple members of the same family. See Services for more information.

Do you offer any military, senior, or student discounts?

We provide the same level of service to all of our clients. We don’t offer discounts, but are happy to discuss options and find a treatment plan that will work for you.

Should I tip my massage provider?

Tips are always welcomed and certainly warm our hearts, but are never expected.

Do you accept insurance?

Although many doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors and acupuncturists refer to us, most insurance companies do not cover massage therapy. However, we are happy to provide a receipt or statement for you to submit to your insurance company or HSA.

What is your cancellation policy?

24-hour notice is required for cancellations and reschedules. If you cancel with less than the required notice, you will be charged a cancelation fee equal to 60% of your session fee at the discretion of your therapist. “No shows” are charged in full. If you arrive late to your appointment, we cannot extend your appointment time; you will still be charged the full amount. Of course family emergencies and sickness will be taken into consideration.

By scheduling with us you are agreeing to adhere to this policy and authorizing the use of your credit card for the scheduled appointment.

We will always be respectful of your time and expect our clients to do the same for us, but understand that life happens and will do our best to accommodate your needs.

What is a “Sports Massage”?

Sports massage is a type of therapeutic massage that focuses on treating soft tissue aches, pain and injury associated with recreational activities. It applies to anyone who regularly stretches their physical limits through movement. Therapeutic Sports Massage can be used to prevent or treat injury. Our student athletes who are constantly training benefit from multiple shorter “shakeout” sessions. We recommend longer sessions for active family members a few days before and after a marathon or race and on your active rest days of training. Our golfers benefit throughout the season and a few days before and after tournament.

How do I make an appointment?

There are three ways: Book online, send an email, or call us directly at 804 986 1116. A credit card is required to reserve your appointment online.
